Exploration of the effect of Zn-MgO-UPP coating on hardness, corrosion resistance and microstructure properties of mild steel

This paper investigated the effect of unripe plantain peel (UPP) nanoparticles reinforced Zn-MgO composite coating on hardness, anti-corrosion and microstructure properties mild steel. The characteristics coatings were examined using potentiodynamic polarization method, employing 3.65 % NaCl solution as test medium. hardness was studied Brinell technique, while XRD SEM/EDS. results study revealed that as-received steel sample exhibited corrosion rate value 8.6272 mm year-1 136.8 kgf mm-2, respectively, coated a 242.5 mm-2 3.6362 year-1, respectively. optimal performing Zn-MgO-UPP (sample with 20 g L-1 MgO 6 UPP) 0.8317 245.8 Zn-20MgO-6UPP indicated UPP further improved passivating strengthening ability coating. Moreover, profile possessed high intensities, which indicated exhibit microstructural chemical homogeneity, stability good texture. It observed SEM micrographs exhibited more refined compared to coating, indicating grain refining tendency nanoparticles. EDS presence essential dispersion elements in coatings.
